Overview

This unit provides you with knowledge and understanding of how children and young people from birth to 19 years develop. The unit also explores actions which should be taken when differences in development are identified and the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development.

We will also support your personal and professional development so that you can make an informed choice regarding your next career steps.

Modules

1. Understand the pattern of development that would normally be expected for children and young people from birth to 19 yrs.

2. Understand the factors that impact on children and young people’s development.

3. Understand the benefits of early intervention to support the development of children and young people.

4. Understand the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development.

5. Understand how assessing, monitoring, and recording the development of children and young people informs the use of interventions.

Career Progression

This unit is part of the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care and Children and Young Peoples Settings and if you decide to progress on to the full qualification, you will not have to complete this unit again, it will count towards the achievement.

The full Level 5 qualification provides learners with the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in health and social care and children and young people’s services. It has two pathways for those working with children and young people and covers a wide range of topics including

If you decide to progress on to the full qualification it will help you to progress from advanced practitioner to manager status via this qualification. It is also anticipated that it will provide access to higher education opportunities as well.

Aspire Eligibility

All programmes are open to Londoners who meet the following criteria:

  • UK resident and living in London
  • Aged 18+
  • Do not hold a level 4 (post-college/sixth form) qualification
  • Either employed (and earning less than London Living Wage) or unemployed/economically inactive

Course Eligibility

Level 2/GCSE (A* - C or Grade 1 - 4) in Maths and English

Level 2 or 3 Qualification Related to Working with Children and Young People

What is expected of me?

- To be an active participant in the programme.

- To complete all of the workbooks funding paperwork and the accredited unit.

- To undertake a workbased project (will be supplied by us if you are currently not working)

- To participate in all the group online workshops and 1-2-1 coaching sessions.

How much does this cost?

Participation in this programme is completely free. It is fully funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

Additional support for travel to and from places of study and other expenses will vary depending on the provider and the support they are able to offer. These options will be discussed during your enrolment.

How long will it take?

The part time programme typically takes 8 - 12weeks to complete

Can I take more than one unit?

You cannot study more than one unit on the Aspire London Programme.  However, upon completion of your programme, you’ll get advice and guidance from your Aspire Careers Coach about how and where you can continue to study, if this is the next step for you and your career progression. This could include a full Level 5 qualification.
