Overview

Entrepreneurship is about people who have dreams and take their career into their own hands, leading it in the direction of their choice. More recently it has also become about transforming the world by solving big problems, for example initiating social change, creating an innovative product, presenting a new life-changing solution. This unit introduces the study of entrepreneurship and will benefit those thinking of starting up an entrepreneurial venture and those who are future leaders and managers.

The unit aims to illustrate the concept of entrepreneurship and how having an entrepreneurial mindset can make a contribution to all businesses, be that a new business start-up or existing public and corporate organisations. Students will explore the skills, traits and characteristics of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship. Students will understand the importance of difference size businesses on the economy and the contribution they can all make to society. Students will also learn about the need for intrapreneurs and the impact of disruptive entrepreneurship.

Career Progression

Successful completion of this unit can be used as credit against the HNC in Business and Management course delivered at Croydon College. This unit forms part of one of eight units delivered over one academic year.

The unit can also be used as a unique CPD opportunity to gain valuable skills and knowledge to set up your own venture or to contribute to business.

Aspire Eligibility

All programmes are open to Londoners who meet the following criteria:

  • UK resident and living in London
  • Aged 18+
  • Do not hold a level 4 (post-college/sixth form) qualification
  • Either employed (and earning less than London Living Wage) or unemployed/economically inactive

Course Eligibility

Must hold a Level 2 qualification in English

Must hold a Level 2 qualification in Maths

Candidates without Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths may still apply but may be required to complete an initial assessment.

What is expected of me?

- To be an active participant in the programme.

- To complete all of the workbooks funding paperwork and the accredited unit.

- To undertake a workbased project (will be supplied by us if you are currently not working)

- To participate in all the group online workshops and 1-2-1 coaching sessions.

How much does this cost?

Participation in this programme is completely free. It is fully funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

Additional support for travel to and from places of study and other expenses will vary depending on the provider and the support they are able to offer. These options will be discussed during your enrolment.

How long will it take?

The part time programme typically takes 8 - 12weeks to complete

Can I take more than one unit?

You cannot study more than one unit on the Aspire London Programme.  However, upon completion of your programme, you’ll get advice and guidance from your Aspire Careers Coach about how and where you can continue to study, if this is the next step for you and your career progression. This could include a full Level 5 qualification.
