Overview

The module introduces students to the legal and regulatory framework within which businesses operate, basic principles of the English legal system and the part the law plays in enabling the conduct of business with a focus on contract law, negligence, business organisations, trade descriptions and employment law.

The aim of this unit is to enhance students’ understanding of how business law is applied to the running of a business organisation. Students will gain knowledge of business law and examine the impact of the law on business operations and decision making. Throughout the unit, students will identify the legal solutions available to business owners and assess their suitability. The experience that students gain in this unit will help them to better understand the different areas of law that apply.

Career Progression

Successful completion of this unit can be used as credit against the HNC in Business and Management course delivered at Croydon College. This unit forms part of one of eight units delivered over one academic year as part of a Level 4 120 credit course.

The unit can also be used as a unique CPD opportunity to gain skills and knowledge of a business legal and regulatory framework.

Aspire Eligibility

All programmes are open to Londoners who meet the following criteria:

  • UK resident and living in London
  • Aged 18+
  • Do not hold a level 4 (post-college/sixth form) qualification
  • Either employed (and earning less than London Living Wage) or unemployed/economically inactive

Course Eligibility

Must hold a Level 2 qualification in English

Must hold a Level 2 qualification in Maths

Candidates without Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths may still apply but may be required to complete an initial assessment.

How much does this cost?

Participation in this programme is completely free. It is fully funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

Additional support for travel to and from places of study and other expenses will vary depending on the provider and the support they are able to offer. These options will be discussed during your enrolment.

How long will it take?

The part time programme typically takes 8 - 12weeks to complete

Can I take more than one unit?

You cannot study more than one unit on the Aspire London Programme.  However, upon completion of your programme, you’ll get advice and guidance from your Aspire Careers Coach about how and where you can continue to study, if this is the next step for you and your career progression. This could include a full Level 5 qualification.
