Overview

This work-based learning module enables students to gain academic credits for continuing professional development undertaken within their workplace.

The module aims to support the development of academic skills at level 4, to introduce and develop reflective practices, and the ability to develop an understanding of the contemporary evidence base and apply it to practice.

Students are expected to develop a portfolio of evidence to support this. Aims are:

• To allow students to develop knowledge in their area of choice

• To enable students to link theory to practice

• To introduce reflection as a tool to develop their skills and understand their own learning needs

Modules

Learning outcomes are as follows.

1. Knowledge and Understanding:

Demonstrate knowledge of good practice in an area of study relevant to their workplace

2. Intellectual Skills:

Link theory to practice in the chosen area of study and apply this to practice.

Reflect upon their learning needs  

3. Practical Skills:

Demonstrate presentation skills and be able to communicate knowledge effectively  

4. Transferable Skills:

Demonstrate the ability to identify learning needs and take action to address these

Demonstrate skills in self-management and continuing personal and professional development

Career Progression

This module is suitable for those who are currently working within a health and social care setting and wish to gain academic credit for CPD activities undertaken within the workplace. The module encourages increased confidence in the ability to study at level 4 and enables participants to undertake a structured piece of work-based learning that will enhance the ability to maximise learning from a work experience. It will also develop skills of personal development planning and reflection on learning experiences.

Aspire Eligibility

All programmes are open to Londoners who meet the following criteria:

  • UK resident and living in London
  • Aged 18+
  • Do not hold a level 4 (post-college/sixth form) qualification
  • Either employed (and earning less than London Living Wage) or unemployed/economically inactive

Course Eligibility

Students undertaking this module should already employed within the field of health and social care.

What is expected of me?

- To be an active participant in the programme.

- To complete all of the workbooks funding paperwork and the accredited unit.

- To undertake a workbased project (will be supplied by us if you are currently not working)

- To participate in all the group online workshops and 1-2-1 coaching sessions.

How much does this cost?

Participation in this programme is completely free. It is fully funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

Additional support for travel to and from places of study and other expenses will vary depending on the provider and the support they are able to offer. These options will be discussed during your enrolment.

How long will it take?

The part time programme typically takes 8 - 12weeks to complete

Can I take more than one unit?

You cannot study more than one unit on the Aspire London Programme.  However, upon completion of your programme, you’ll get advice and guidance from your Aspire Careers Coach about how and where you can continue to study, if this is the next step for you and your career progression. This could include a full Level 5 qualification.
