Overview

This is an introductory programme in website development, also known as Front End Development. It is ideal for anyone looking to take their first steps towards a digital career.

You will learn to build the public-facing side or Front End of a website using HTML and CSS - two of the core technologies used to create web pages. It’s an ideal course for anyone who wants to combine technical skills with creativity.

Code Institute teach the course 100% online, making it suitable for learners who have to balance learning with other commitments. In addition, the Code Institute platform is on 24/7, so you can access lessons and online tutor support whenever you need to.

Assessment is based on a single milestone project you build while taking the course. You will be assigned an industry mentor to help guide your approach to this project.

Learners will also have access to the Code Institute Careers Hub, where you will:

  • Develop employment skills and professional presentation skills
  • Build your CV and cover letter
  • Learn how to build a strong professional network ready for both peer support and planning your career
  • Discover more about the industry and its typical roles and careers from hiring partners

Modules

1. Programme Preliminaries:

This introductory module establishes the course aims and outcomes and helps learners become familiar with the learning platform.

2. Programming Paradigms:

A contextualised introduction to the world of software development, helping you understand the form and function of different types of programming languages.

3. HTML Essentials:

The building blocks of the web. In this module, you will learn all about HTML and become proficient in its use.

4. CSS Essentials:

CSS is a crucial component of making web interfaces visually appealing and consistent. By the end of this module, youwill be able to build a visually pleasing website.

5. User-Centric Front End Development

In this module, you’ll develop more advanced, user-focussed skills with your HTML and CSS knowledge. By the end, you will have learned shortcuts for developing and deploying professional-grade websites quickly using frameworks and libraries.

6. Careers Hub:

You'll build a digital persona which will help you to grow your personal professional profile and start developing your network of peers.

If you're a job seeker, this will also include developing your employability toolkit, helping you put together a strong CV and cover letter. This will enable you to stand out from the crowd and find your dream role - without reliance on traditional job-seeking platforms.

Career Progression

Graduates of the programme will have used their practical skills to build their own website from scratch during the course. From there, they can further develop their skills in Front End development or move onto a more advanced course to become a Full-Stack Software Developer, building both the front-end and back-end of a website.

HTML and CSS are also helpful skills for digital marketers, in case web development and graphic design are future career prospects you're interested in exploring.

Aspire Eligibility

All programmes are open to Londoners who meet the following criteria:

  • UK resident and living in London
  • Aged 18+
  • Do not hold a level 4 (post-college/sixth form) qualification
  • Either employed (and earning less than London Living Wage) or unemployed/economically inactive

Course Eligibility

We will refer you to Code Institute upon receiving your application and confirming your eligibility. You will then be enrolled in a short coding challenge to check your suitability for the programme.

The challenge should take 2-3 hours to complete, and it will give you an excellent understanding of the type of study ahead and help you determine whether coding is the right course for you.

What is expected of me?

- To be an active participant in the programme.

- To complete all of the workbooks funding paperwork and the accredited unit.

- To undertake a workbased project (will be supplied by us if you are currently not working)

- To participate in all the group online workshops and 1-2-1 coaching sessions.

How much does this cost?

Participation in this programme is completely free. It is fully funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

Additional support for travel to and from places of study and other expenses will vary depending on the provider and the support they are able to offer. These options will be discussed during your enrolment.

How long will it take?

The part time programme typically takes 8 - 12weeks to complete

Can I take more than one unit?

You cannot study more than one unit on the Aspire London Programme.  However, upon completion of your programme, you’ll get advice and guidance from your Aspire Careers Coach about how and where you can continue to study, if this is the next step for you and your career progression. This could include a full Level 5 qualification.
